Women are the backbone of every society, yet millions of women in rural India continue to face barriers that limit their potential. Lack of education, limited economic opportunities, and insufficient awareness about health and hygiene prevent them from leading empowered lives. At the National Social Justice & Human Rights Commission (NSJHRC), we believe that empowering women means empowering families, communities, and the nation. With this vision, we launched Project Shakti—an initiative to uplift women through skill development, training, and menstrual hygiene awareness.

What is Project Shakti?
Project Shakti is a holistic women empowerment initiative by NSJHRC. Its aim is two-fold:
- Provide skill training and workshops to women in rural India, enabling them to become financially independent and self-reliant.
- Spread awareness about menstrual hygiene management, breaking the stigma around menstruation and ensuring women’s health and dignity are prioritized.
Through this project, we work toward creating an environment where women are not just supported but celebrated as equal contributors to society.
Why Women Empowerment Matters
When women are empowered, entire communities benefit. Women who gain skills and financial independence are able to:
- Support their families economically.
- Invest in the education of their children.
- Improve decision-making power within households.
- Drive social change in their communities.
At the same time, menstrual hygiene awareness ensures that women and young girls can live healthier lives, attend school regularly, and participate confidently in everyday activities.

Activities Under Project Shakti
To achieve its mission, NSJHRC conducts:
- Skill-building workshops such as tailoring, handicrafts, and entrepreneurship training.
- Awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene, health, and nutrition.
- Community outreach programs to break taboos and encourage conversations on women’s rights and health.
- Support networks that connect women to resources and opportunities for growth.
Building a Stronger Tomorrow
Through Project Shakti, NSJHRC is not only addressing immediate needs but also building a foundation for long-term change. By empowering women, we are creating stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities where equality is more than an idea—it is a lived reality.
